Received an email from Jane today:
Great to see the blog back
May I comment on the design? Absolute
over abundance of white space, in the banner heading and everywhere
else. The old blog design was much superior. The new one also doesn’t
fit as nicely onto my mini-notebook screen.Bye now, it is just not as nice to hang around and read anymore. It is
like being in the snow in sunshine.. Any chance of a different look?
Gee, sorry about the eyestrain Jane.
I kinda (sorta) like the new look. Its more minimalist and keeping in the theme of crisp white hospital sheets (with a smattering of blood). This theme is also a little easier to post to than the previous ‘magazine’ style which involved a little more flaffing around to reorganise the new posts.
But I can see how all the white space and simplified design might be a little underwhelming.
Also, I’d hate to think the new look stops people form wanting to hang around and read my stuff.
Is anyone else a little disappointed with the current format? Back to the drawing board?
Let me know.

As white as my St Vincent’s Hospital nurses uniform that I used to wear in the 70′s, hairy legs and all, and as white as the patients that came across the “Grey Nun” on night shift in the old wing.
Leave it it looks very clean and crisp- i like it.
Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions. Very good.
I am tinkering around a little to try to incorporate your suggestions.
Let me know what you think….
It is a bit much. Makes me feel a bit lonely wandering around all the white area.
Like it. Very eye catching.
What’s with the crisp white hospital sheet? In my short but merry career have only seen the pale blue jobs. Not suggesting that for an instant as a background but did prefer the original format.
And also, comparing the FF version with the IE, your Search box at the top is also occluded in IE.
I don’t mind the white, but the box at the top with the next and previous posts, and the main post box itself occludes the Impacted Nurse title and graphic in IE7 (it’s fine in firefox and chrome). Another instance of MS screwing us, but as more thanhalf the world are still forced to use IE by their workplace, thought you might like to know. (And it may just be me, but the huge icons for the e-mail me, FB, RSS links etc rather shit me… but hey, that’s a first world whinge if ever I heard one! Wouldn’t stop me visiting the site).
I am happy. I find it easy to read. Dosent really remind me of crisp sheets though!! Our sheets are green anyway
‘new’ look is fab, Ian
FIX for those of using notebooks is by ‘bunkface’:
‘Fit-to-width’ feature in Opera [browser] adapts Web pages
to fit to the width of the screen resolution or browser window,
eliminating the need to scroll horizontally.
This is good for easier viewing of those extra wide pages and images.
This can be easily toggled thru a shortcut key
or by clicking a button.[ 'View' icon at the right bottom page]
-happily, Opera Mini for Android has ‘f-to-w’ as well
-alas,firefox has no such addon
cheers
I really like the minimalist look but I have to agree it takes up too much of the page. the header takes up approx half the space of this post, which means, unless you have a huge amount of screen real estate, a fair amount of scrolling. Definitely an issue with net books, tablets and smartphone type devices.
Like it. Very professional looking. Easy to read as not being distracted by over the top backgrounds.
